Kogi State Government on Tuesday shut down all primary and secondary schools in the state.
As of the time of writing this report, the government did not give any reason for the action, however, there are rumours that it was taken to enable security operatives conduct raids on the state.

“The development is to forestall any reprisal attack by the bandits on soft target areas such as schools,” a source stated.
A message by the Kogi State Chairman, National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Pastor Reuben Jimoh, to his members, stated that the state government has decided to fast-forward the midterm break into the emergency lockdown.
‎”The midterm break for school has been fast-forwarded and we shall be resuming back on 16/02/2026. ‎Therefore, there will be no school tomorrow until 16th/02/2026. “No school should go against this adjustment,” Jimoh said.
‎Also, a message from a school platform read, “Dear parents, pls be informed that the school received a directive to proceed on emergency break with effect from 4/2/26. Resumption date will be announced later. Please encourage your ward to read at home. Remain blessed. ‎Management.”
‎The public relations officer from the Ministry of Education, Solomon Musa, according to Arise news confirmed the development but declined to give reason for the sudden lockdown of schools.
The state has remained epic centre for kidnappings, abductions and killings, particularly, passengers that pass through the state to either the Federal Capital Territory,  Abuja and the Norther part of the country or the Southern part.
Similarly, they had been influx of armed herdsmen to the eastern part of the state in particular, attacking individuals and destroying their farmlands
