Nigerians are eagerly waiting for the unmasking of government officials behind the importation of the adulterated fuel regarded as the scandal and national embarrassment of the century.
This is even as some Nigerians are calling for full scale into the subsidy scandals which is still shrouded in secrecy.
In fact the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and MRS Oil Nigeria Plc had traded blame on the issue as the Group Managing Director, NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, had named MRS and three other dealers as the firms that imported the contaminated products into Nigeria.
But Mrs had earlier said the products were imported by the agents of NNPC, being the sole importer of the products.
Observers are insisting that the scandal should provide the government to dig into some allegations that some of these companies export the crude and in return import refined products, free on board, (FoB), if really it is committed to fighting corruption.
But government officials had been claiming that subsidy had always being paid despite the fact that the crude are taken out free on board.
However, there was anger in the House of Representatives at the plenary on Thursday over the importation of adulterated Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, into the country.
The House consequently resolved to investigate the matter, insisting that the government officials in the import and distribution chain, whose action or inaction led to the spread of the commodity, must be held accountable.
But MRS had on Wednesday denied any involvement in the imports of the adulterated products, as it explained that methanol was prohibited in petrol imported into Nigeria.
Consequently, analysts are surprised that importation of these these products are not adequately checked and monitored at the border.
Some are of the opinion that some other agencies at the borders, including the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), intelligence units of military among others should also be questioned on the scandal.
