Just weeks to the Governorship election in Imo state, the support for front-line LP candidate, Senator Athan Achonu has continued to increase, even cutting across religious faith, community influences and party lines.

This is even as attack on his campaign offices and materials in various parts of the state, escalates.

The off-circle Governorship election will hold in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa states come November, 11, 2023.

In the last few weeks, most influential leaders in and around the state who are known to always exert some influence in past voting patterns within the parties and in the elections proper, have continued to offer their subtle support to Senator Achonu.
Specifically, some influential leaders of Imo state and the South East with diverse political leanings have at various fora been quietly giving tacit support to the Emohua born technocrat with one of them quoted as saying that “ Senator Achonu is in the best position to take Imo state where the people want it to be after November 11 2023”.

Senator Achonu, an investor and outstanding businessman, is campaigning on his record as the owner of the largest farm in the Southeast and South-south regions, an employer of thousands of people as well as an investor in the hospitality , construction and finance sectors of the Nigerian economy.

“Presently, LP is the most accepted politician in the South-East and the entire Nigeria in the area of strong voter support and followership. He is to a lot of us here, the best prepared Governorship candidate in Imo State”, Nwabueze Amadi, a trader and community leader claimed last week.

According to another community leader and influencer, “ As a candidate, the search for a very peaceful Imo state and the markets favour Athan Achonu. And with no baggages of any sort, the ground is been prepared fully for him to win.”
A group of professionals drawn from the riverine areas of River state, said in a statement: “Let’s support and vote in Athan Achonu to upgrade governance and deliver prosperity to everyone in Imo State”

The spokesperson for the group explained that Beke remains the best, Imo state has to put forward in 2023. ‘ He is not controversial in a way, he is not carrying any baggage and he is not in any way tainted.
