There seems to be anxiety and tension in the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following Closed-Door Meeting of governor Nyesom Wike with the party’s serving, ex and other politicians, Sunday, in Abuja.
Specifically, Governor Wike of Rivers State and former presidential aspirant was said to have hosted the crucial meeting with some governors of the Party who coordinated his presidential campaign.
The meeting took place at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to one of the participants, professor Jerry Gana, the meeting was held principally to chart way forward for the party and the country
But a member of the Board of Trustees (BOT) told the metrobusinessnews.com under strict anonymity that, although the meeting, if aimed at forging unity and resolving the lingering issues, would be welcomed, but there is need to involve the relevant organs of the party.
He blamed the leadership of the party and some actors for coming on the national television to speak on issues that should be resolved through the party organs.
“I would suggest that the group, which, according to him, included some founding members, should endeavour to involve relevant organs like the BoT for quick resolution of the crisis, ” he added.
Speaking further, he said “rather than the party to reposition itself to take power in view of the mood of Nigerians, who seem to be fed up with the present APC led Federal Government, it is rather causing tension and anxiety within the party, and this is unfortunate.“
Those at the meeting included Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
Also present are some former governors such as Donald Duke of Cross River State, Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, Ibrahim Idris of Kogi State, and Jonah Jang of Plateau State.
