Nigeria has been given leave to appeal against the court judgment that asked it to pay $9.6 billion to Process and Industrial Development Limited (P&ID) over contract failure.

Emerging reports claimed that the leave to appeal the ruling was granted Nigeria by the United Kingdom Commercial and Arbitration Court on Thursday.

Nigeria’s delegation led by Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, had last Saturday left Nigeria for the UK to find a way of settling the $9.6 billion judgment debt.

Malami had hinted that the delegation would meet with the legal team in the UK on the way forward.

It was learnt that the legal team on Thursday argued the case and prayed for stay of execution of the judgment.
