The camp of Senator Teslim Folarin of the All Progressive Congress (APC) may have heaved a sigh of relief after the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Friday dismissed the petition filed against Senator Teslim Folarin by the immediate past Senator in Oyo Central District, Monsurat Sunmonu and Chief Bisi Ilaka.

While delivering its judgment, the election petition panel chaired by D. M. Igyusu, ruled that the two petitions filed by Sunmonu and Ilaka lacked merit.

The petitioners were also ordered to pay the sum of N20,000 in favour of all respondents involved in the case including; Folarin, Independent National Electoral Commission and the APC.

The decision to order the petitioners to pay the above sum was reached after the panel chair came to the conclusion that the petition by Sunmonu and Ilaka lacked merit.

D. M. Igyusu was of the opinion that none of the petitioners was able to substantiate claims of over-voting and electoral malpractices, pleaded against Folarin’s victory.
