The battle for the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna seems to have begun, as contenders for the exalted position are swelling in number.
It is no longer news that the bigwigs in the ruling APC in the state are at logger heads over some issues which the newly elected chairman of the party in the state has promised to address.
Among those who have indicated interest for running for the governorship position in the state is Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central at the National Assembly.
In an interview with newsmen in Kaduna, Shehu Sani said it was time to rescue the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House from the hands of those whom he said, have converted it to serve some group of consultants and white skinned persons who have no bearing with the true owners.
According to him, “I want you to know that I will contest for governorship position in Kaduna state come 2019″.
“Right now, Kashim Ibrahim Government House has been locked out from the true owners. We are coming to open it to the people so they can have access to it once again”.
“People in Kaduna state have been denied dividends of democracy; we must bring true democracy to the people”.
Speaking on whether he intends to contest under the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, Sani said he was already on his way out of the party.
He stated that the party is at the verge of collapse with a lot of party squabbles.
“What is happening in APC is frightening and I am afraid if the party can come out of it. It is unfortunate that all what the party accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is what we have now in APC, if not more.”
“There is so much impunity, infighting, crisis and lack of internal democracy. The party is enmeshed with prolonged leadership crisis at the national and states”.
“There were no congresses in several states across the nation. It was all illegitimate exercise where the governors just draw up lists and send to the national who accepts such lists hook line and sinker”.
He said, “Here in Kaduna, there was no congress. The governor just assembled those he selected and announced their names. As it is now, APC really stands on a very shaky ground and unless something is done; its not just me, our group is leaving APC. We are already at the departure lounge ready to go any moment from now”.
“As for 2019, we are in discussion with 25 political parties who have approached us for the Kaduna Project. So, what we will have in Kaduna is an alliance with these political parties and we have been meeting regularly”.
” I am a team player, if at the end the people of Kaduna State want me to remain in my Senate I will have no choice but to obey them but otherwise I will contest for governorship,” Sani disclosed.
