The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has granted eight additional ‘No Objection’ to successful applicants to participate in the procurement process for meter in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
Mrs. Vivian Mbonu the Head, Media Unit of NERC made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.
The new additions bring to 30 the total number of companies approved by the Commission to participate in meter procurement and bid process with the electricity distribution companies of their choice.
Mbonu stated that successful bidder from procurement process shall obtain Meter Asset Provider Permit from the Commission after entering into Metering Service Agreement with electricity distribution companies.
Services to be provided by Meter Asset Providers may among others include financing, procurement, installation, repair and replacement of electricity meters according to the MAP Regulations 2018.
According to NERC, the eight newly approved ‘No Objection’ holders include: Carlin Concept International Nigeria Limited; Onenation Energy Platform Nigeria Limited; Armese Consulting Limited;
They also invlude CWG Plc; Damtaq Limited; Powerup Projects International Limited; Esinos Resources International Limited; and Techadvance Limited.
The Commission noted that intending investors have opportunities to apply for the Commission’s ‘No Objection’ to participate in meter procurement process as it is a continuous exercise.
It is recalled that NERC had earlier approved 22 companies to become meter providers in Nigeria. This number was chosen from a pool of interested applicants for the Meter Asset Provider (MAP).
“MAP Regulation is intended to facilitate closure of the wide metering gap in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) within three years. The ‘No Objection’ is to qualify intending investors to participate in the meter procurement process in NESI, “ stated NERC.
The process is expected to help the 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in Nigeria bridge metering gaps in their networks and also reduce or end estimated electricity bills .
According to the Commission, implementation of the MAP regulation started from April 3, 2018, when it signed off on it.
The MAP regulation mandates DisCos to engage meter assets providers who fund purchase, installation and replacement of meters to meet metering obligations to their customers.
The electricity commission says it has also conducted due diligence on the supporting documents to the applications submitted by interested investors, and granted successful applicants ‘No Objection’ to participate in the procurement process for meter assets provision. These provisions were given in accordance with section 8 subsection 4 of the Meter Assets Providers Regulations, 2018.
Companies earlier approved to participate in the MAP are; Huawei Technology Company Nigeria Limited; Bilview Energy Limited; Chintech Electro Nigeria Limited; Holley Metering Limited; Meron Nigeria Limited; Integrated Power Limited; MBH Power Limited; Trimani Engineering Limited; Sapropel Energy Resources Limited; Megawatt Distribution International Limited; Unistar Hi-Tech Systems Limited; and MOMAS Electricity Meters Manufacturing Company Limited.
