The Accord Party has condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the reported freezing of the Osun State Government’s accounts, describing the action as illegal and politically motivated ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Chairman, Chief Maxwell Mgbudem, the party alleged that the anti-graft agency’s action formed part of a broader attempt to influence the outcome of the election in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the press release, Accord said it would challenge the action in court, insisting that the EFCC acted without obtaining a court order.

“This injustice, illegality, impunity and recklessness shall not stand,” the party said.

It added: “This unconstitutional action of the EFCC shall be challenged in court as the temple of justice and last hope of all aggrieved citizens.”

The party further alleged that the commission was working with security agencies to disrupt governance in Osun State before the election.

“It is obvious that EFCC is acting a script along with the police in the state to paralyze and frustrate government activities to pave way for the opposition APC. The timing of this grand plot to destabilise the state ahead of the gubernatorial poll is evident.”

Accord claimed it had earlier warned of alleged plans to deploy federal institutions to influence the election, adding that such efforts would fail.

The party also called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure a free, fair, credible and peaceful governorship election by directing security agencies to remain neutral throughout the electoral process.

“Accord calls on President Bola Tinubu to allow a free, fair, credible and peaceful governorship election in Osun State on 15th August 2026, by ensuring that the security agencies particularly the police are neutral, impartial and professional in their conduct before, during and after the poll.”

The party alleged that political tension had increased in the state because of what it described as police interference, harassment, intimidation, arrests and detention of its members and supporters.

It maintained that elections should not become a “war front” and warned against any attempt to manipulate the governorship poll.

Accord also demanded the unconditional release of its members and supporters allegedly detained in Abuja, Osun and Nasarawa states, describing their detention as a violation of their constitutional rights.

The party urged the President to direct the EFCC, security agencies and other institutions to ensure that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducts the election without interference.

Accord concluded by expressing confidence that Governor Ademola Adeleke would secure re-election, stating: “Governor Adeleke remains the people’s choice any day and will be re-elected to continue his transformative leadership.”
