Social media users have reacted with outrage after Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga called for vandals to be “shot at sight” in response to viral footage showing damage to reconstruction work on the Ibadan–Ilesa federal highway.
The post sparked a public spat between Bayo Onanuga and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s aide, Phrank Shaibu, who condemned the remark, saying a government spokesman cannot call for citizens to be shot.
Other Nigerins also berated Onanuga, noting thaat the level of impunity has gotten to embarrassing height,  while the gap between public servants/politicians are widening on daily basis
In politics, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi solidified his intention to run for president in 2027 as “number 1”, firmly ruling out the possibility of accepting a vice-presidential slot.
Obi also criticised President Tinubu in a lengthy X post, questioning why he spent 23 days abroad in January amid rising kidnappings, insecurity, and two national grid collapses.
It comes as the President arrived at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Saturday evening to a crowd of senior government officials lined up to receive him in a spectacle that has sparked heated debate online.

Meanwhile , a new investigation revealed that the Presidency spent at least ₦34 billion on foreign exchange for international trips between 2024 and 2025, with the Presidential Air Fleet accounting for several multi-billion naira transactions.
In Kaduna State, dignitaries including Vice President Kashim Shettima, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and former Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby visited the state to commission projects, including the Tudun Biri resettlement scheme for victims of a 2023 military drone strike.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala toured A.M.A Medical’s manufacturing facilities, praising progress in producing vaccines on Nigerian soil amid Africa’s heavy reliance on imports.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Justin Welby praised Kaduna’s transformation from the ethno-religious tensions he saw in 2002 to today’s relative peace, crediting Governor Uba Sani’s inclusive leadership and the Kaduna Peace Model.
