Goalkeeper Dean Henderson emerged as the match-winner, pulling off crucial saves from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott, while Mohamed Salah fired his spot-kick over the bar.

Henderson, who was instrumental in Palace’s FA Cup triumph last season, once again proved decisive on the big stage.

Liverpool’s Alisson Becker managed to save Eberechi Eze’s penalty, and Borna Sosa rattled the crossbar in a tense exchange.
However, Oliver Glasner’s side kept their composure to seal the historic win.

The London club produced slick attacking football, taking the lead twice during standard time, before holding their nerve in the shootout.

For Liverpool, it was another Wembley heartbreak as they were left to settle for runners-up medals.
