In defiance of an order from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC to MultiChoice, parent company of DStv and GOtv to withhold subscription price increase until after investigation, the company has gone ahead to effect the hike.
Analysts say the action is an affront to the powers of constituted authorities, adding that the frequent disobedience and subsequent price hikes by the South African company should not be allowed to happen in Nigeria
Metrobusinessnews.com (MBN) had reported last week that following the announcement by the parent company, FCCPC on Tuesday summoned and cautioned against arbitrary price hikes in the pay-TV sector.

Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice, in a messahe to customers said the adjustment in prices are necessary and assured subscribers that the company remains committed to providing premium entertainment and maintaining the quality of its content offerings.
The latest price review follows a series of similar increases in recent years, sparking concerns among consumers over the affordability of pay-TV services in Nigeria.

In an official statement, ‘Important Update On DStv and GOtv Package Prices’, to customers on Monday, March 3, Ugbe said,
“Dear Valued Customer,
Price Adjustment on DStv and GOtv Packages.
On Saturday March 1, 2025, we will adjust our prices across all our packages on DStv and GOtv.
We understand the impact this change may have on you – our valued customer, but the rise in the cost of business operations, has led us to make this difficult decision.
It remains our mission to provide the best entertainment and viewing experience to you and are committed to continue to deliver high-quality content and unparalleled service.
So, from Saturday, 1 March 2025, the price adjustment will take effect as follows:
