Anxiety As EFCC Plans To Investigate Monies Used In Buying Party Nomination Forms

As politicians continue to flaunt their affluence in the midst of growing poverty and derivations in the country, particularly with the scrambling for N100 million and N40million presidential nomination forms and elective positions, the nation's antigraft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it is set to investigate the sources of the monies. 
 According to EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa, who featured on Channels Television's Politics Today, the aim is to ensure that monies used in the purchase of nomination forms ahead of the 2023 elections are legitimate.
According to Bawa, the commission is working in collaboration with other relevant agancies to ensure transparency and legitimacy in the sources of monies being paid.

“When it comes to the issue of monitoring election funds as well as candidates’ funds, that has to do with the work of INEC in this regard but, of course, we are working hand in gloves with INEC and other related agencies in that field to ensure that we follow the money, we know the source, whether it is legitimate or illegitimate because that is what concerns us,” he said during current affairs programme.

But the issue is expected to generate a lot of controversy and apprehension as analysis show that official incomes of most of the aspirants, even for one year, would not cover the amount being paid  as nomination fees, prompting suspicions about the commitment of the government to fighting corruption.
