President Moise was assassinated at his private residence.

The Haitian president was assassinated in an overnight attack, with his wife also wounded in the attack.
Protests calling for his ouster started in 2018, leading into a civil conflict with over 200 dead.

Prime Minister Claude Joseph confirmed the assassination of the Haitian president in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement translated from French reads: “At around one (1) a.m., on the night of Tuesday July 6 to Wednesday July 7, 2021, a group of unidentified individuals, some of whom spoke in Spanish, attacked the private residence of the President of the Republic and thus fatally injured the Head of state.
“Wounded by gunshot, the First Lady takes the care that her case requires. Condemning this heinous, inhuman and barbaric act, the Prime Minister a.i, Dr. Claude Joseph, and the CSPN call on the population to calm.

“The security situation in the country is under the control of the Haitian National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces. All measures are taken to guarantee the continuity of the State and protect the Nation. Democracy and the Republic will win”.

Moise was the 58th President of Haiti. He has been the ruler of the country since February 2017.
