The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) on Tuesday called on the Lagos State Governor-elect, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to fix both the Federal and State roads for free flow of traffic when he assumes office, and help to reduce road crashes.

Alhaji Mohammed Musa, the Chairman of RTEAN, Lagos Chapter made the appeal while setting agenda for Sanwo-Olu in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Musa urged Sanwo-Olu to use his office to save lives of the people by fixing bad roads across the state and constructing new ones.

“Many Nigerians die daily due to bad roads that lead to accidents or stress encountered during gridlock.

“A journey that should not take up to an hour can take more than six hours, especially on the major roads that are of economic importance to the nation.

“Our advice to the newly-elected governor is to look at road infrastructure and improve them, not only for us, but for the good of Lagos residents who suffer a lot on the road,” the RTEAN boss said.

Musa especially called on the government to come to the aid of residents and companies doing business along the Lagos -Badagary Expressway saying that the road had become a death trap.

“This road is an international road, as it leads to the border between Nigeria and Seme.

“RTEAN members worked so hard in campaigns and during elections by making sure that members vote for APC both at Federal and State levels.

“We want government attention on this corridor and others to alleviate the suffering of motoring public and commuters,” the union leader said.

He congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, as well as Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr Femi Hamzat, the Governor-elect and Deputy Governor-elect of Lagos State respectively.

NAN reports that Sanwo-Olu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 739,445 votes to defeat Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 206,141 votes, and other contestants in the March 9 governorship election.

Sanwo-Olu was declared winner of the poll on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
