Theresa MayPrime Minister Theresa May, says she will allow parliament to vote on Britain leaving the EU without a deal and on extending the Brexit negotiations if it rejects her deal again.

May told lawmakers that talks with EU officials were making “good progress” as she continues to seek changes to the “backstop” arrangement in the withdrawal agreement to guarantee an open Irish border.

She promised lawmakers in the Commons, parliament’s main elected house, another “meaningful vote” by March 12 on the Brexit deal after she suffered a crushing defeat in January.

If she loses the new vote, parliament will vote by March 13 on whether or not to leave without a deal, May said.

So the U K will only leave without a deal on March 29 if there is explicit consent for that in this house,” she said.

If lawmakers were to reject a no-deal Brexit, they would get a third vote on whether to ask the EU for a “short, limited extension” to the Brexit negotiations, May said.
