APC Presidential Rally: Police, NSCDC beef up security in Ebonyi

APCThe Police and the Nigeria Society and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ebonyi Command, have beefed up security ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign visit to the state on Wednesday.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Loveth Odah, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in
Abakaliki on Tuesday.

Odah said police personnel would be assigned to strategic locations in the capital city.

She said that there were standard routes lined for the president’s visit, adding that restriction of movement would commence at 5:30 am on Wednesday till his departure.

She noted that markets within the precincts of the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, venue of the rally would be closed during his visit.

She appealed to traders who plied the mapped out routes to avoid the area, adding that security operatives would be on ground to maintain law and order.

Odah also pleaded with motorists who plied the mapped out routes such as Presco junction, Ezza Road, Stadium and Udensi roundabout to ensure compliance by using alternative routes.

“The venue of the rally, the township stadium, has been inspected and guarded for the past four days now.

“All necessary measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch free rally before, during and after in the state.

“First point of his landing is secured by the military and the state police command is ever ready with adequate security measures,” she said.

The PPRO said the president would be meeting with traditional rulers and party faithful in addition to other places.

The state Command of the Nigerian security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it had deployed over 1,000 personnel to complement other security operatives to maintain law and order.

“We are standing by to receive him and very prepared for his visit in area of security from his point of entry to departure.

‘’I urge you all to be calm and law abiding before, during and after the president’s visit, regardless of party affiliations, as he is the president of the country.
