Mr Olayinka Oyebode, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, says the state government will ensure regular payment of salaries.
Oyebode, who disclosed this at a media forum on Tuesday in Ado Ekiti, said the era of owing civil servants salaries had gone with the last administration.
He said the current administration had started demonstrating this position with the prompt payment of October salary to workers.
On the backlog of between five and seven months salary arrears owed different categories of workers by the last administration, Oyebode said that efforts were already on to clear them.
He said that the backlog of arrears would be paid in batches.
“Henceforth, there is not going to be a month in which civil servants in Ekiti state will not get their monthly pay
” As for those salaries the last administration owed, we are already studying files to know what is owed exactly so that government can commence the process of paying.
“But let me make it clear that we will pay in instalments, so when it comes, it will be like a bonus,’’ he said.
Shedding light on the free education scheme inaugurated recently by the Fayemi administration, Oyebode said the policy outlaws all forms of payments in public schools.
He warned school principals and headmasters against collecting money from pupils under any guise as doing so would amount to sabotage and illegality.
Oyebode said a circular had been issued by the government and sent to all schools warning school heads against collecting fees from pupils.
He urged parents, the media and other stakeholders to report any school charging fees to the Ministry of Education.
Oyebode also said that all uncompleted projects of the last administration would be completed by the state government.
