The Nigerian Senate has finally screened Festus Keyamo as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ministerial nominee after apologising to the lawmakers over his failure to appear before the 9th National Assembly when he served as Minister of State for Labour and Productivity in the last administration.

Earlier, there was an uproar in the Senate during the screening of Festus Keyamo SAN for appointment as Minister.

This followed a constitutional point of order and motion moved by Senator Darlington Nwokocha (LP – Abia Central) where he called for the screening of Keyamo to be stood down over his past attitude towards the National Assembly when he was Minister.

Nwokocha accused Keyamo of disrespecting the 9th National Assembly and levelling allegations of corruption against the previous administration.

Nwokocha claimed that Keyamo was summoned to clarify matters pertaining to a Special Public Works programme during that time but failed to honor the invitation.

The Senate went into an executive session after the rowdy screening exercise to deliberate on the matter.

When it reconvened, a humbled Keyamo apologised, saying he regretted his actions.

He was asked to take a bow and go after the apology.
