Mambilla crisis: Osinbajo meets community leaders

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have met with community leaders in Mambilla Plateau in a bid to resolve the lingering dispute between farmers and herdsmen in the area.

The meeting held at the executive council chambers of the Taraba State Government House also had in attendance Governor Darius Ishaku, his deputy, Haruna Manu, some top officials of the Taraba State Government, the Senator Representing the zone, Senator Yusuf Yusuf, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Sen. Aisha Alhassan, and Political Adviser to the President, Sen. Babafemi Ojudu.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the opening of the meeting thanked the Gov Ishaku, government officials and community leaders from the Mambilla Plateau for their commitment in finding lasting solutions to the crisis in the area.

According to Prof. Osinbajo, “ it is an important meeting because I thought it will be important for us to interact but i am happy to note that things have settled down and things are improving. I want to thank you all for the leadership that you have shown; all the leaders from that local government.’’

While urging the people to embrace and live in harmony, the Vice President said, “the most important thing for our people is the security of lives and property and food on their tables. Our people already have enough problems as it is. And I believe that It is our role as leaders to ensure that all our people are safe and secure and that we provide that security as much as we can.’’

He assured all stakeholders in the state of government’s commitment in ensuring that permanent peace returned to the area.

Earlier in his remark, Gov. Dickson thanked the Vice President for his commitment in ensuring that peace returned to parts of the state plagued by crisis especially the Mambila Plateau.

He assured the Vice President of the state government’s cooperation with the Federal Government in ensuring that peace is restored to the Mambila Plateau.
