Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a commanding performance in Marrakech on Saturday to defeat Algeria 2-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 quarter-final, booking a semi-final showdown with hosts Morocco.

After a tense first half in which Nigeria dominated possession but failed to convert several chances including a near miss that was cleared off the line, the Super Eagles struck early in the second half.

Victor Osimhen rose highest in the 47th minute to meet a precise Bruno Onyemaechi cross and headed Nigeria into the lead just two minutes after the restart, sending the Marrakesh Stadium into raptures.

Ten minutes later, Osimhen was again at the heart of the action, this time turning provider.

His clever lay-off freed Akor Adams in the 57th minute, who coolly slotted the ball into the empty net to double Nigeria’s advantage.

Algeria, despite fresh substitutions and tactical shifts, struggled to create meaningful openings against a resolute Nigerian defence marshalled with discipline and focus.

The result ends Algeria’s unbeaten run in the tournament and keeps Nigeria’s title hopes very much alive, as they prepare to face Morocco in the last four.
