Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his deputy, Monday Onyeme, have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress.

Oborevwori moved to the APC along with his predecessor and running mate of Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa.

Others who moved to the ruling party with the governor are his commissioners and major stakeholders in the PDP in Delta State.

The governor’s chief press secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the development.

Oborevwori, Ahon told Vanguard, announced his defection following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.

He said the decision to defect to APC followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders in the interest of Delta State.

Meanwhile, a clip of Oborevwori being serenaded with ‘on your mandate’, the political tune made popular by President Bola Tinubu, has gone viral.

The footage shows the governor smiling and clapping along as ‘on your mandate we shall stand’ from his cabinet members echoes through the hall.

An aide to the Delta governor was quoted as saying on condition of anonymity that the video was not recent.

“The video circulating is old. It was after the supreme court verdict affirming the mandate of His Excellency,” the aide said.
