Again, INEC Rejects Recall Petition Against Sen Natasha, Says ‘Has Not Met Requirements’

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the petition to recall the Senator representing Kogi Central Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has not met requirements.

In a terse statement on Thursday, the electoral commission said the petition did not meet the requirements of the constitution.

“The petition for the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended),” INEC wrote on its X handle.

Recall that Natasha had during a rally in her senatorial district on Tuesday, accused INEC of guiding the petitioners on how to perfect her recall.

She advised the INEC chairman, professor
Mahmood Yakubu to strive to leave a legacy worthy of emulation by not giving in to presdures being mounted on him, adding that he would not be there forever.

Yakubu, born 1962, is a Nigerian academic and current chairman of INEC, was appointed to the office by former President Muhammadu Buhari on 21 October 2015, succeeding Amina Zakari, who served as acting chairman.
