Lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities have received full salaries for the month of November 2022, The PUNCH can confirm.

Metrobusinessnews.com (MBN) gathered that the eight month arrears remained withheld by the Federal Government.

However, analysts are not sure of the next moves of ASUU whose members have been appealing to spirited Nigerians to prevail on the Federal Government to pay them the eight months areas as well as part of the the October salary.

A senior member of the union at the Bayero University Kano made confirmed the payment to the paper’s corespondent in Abuja on Wednesday.

“Some of our members have started receiving salaries and I can confirm to you that we received our full salaries for the month of November. However, the arrears are still withheld.”

MBN reports that the Federal Government refused to pay the striking lecturers for the eight months which the union embarked on strike.

The lecturers, in October 2022 were also paid pro-rata (half-pay) according to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

In fact, the lecturers were paid only 18 working days in the month of October a senior member of ASUU who spoke to the correspondent under strict confidence noted.

Speaking further, he said, “We were only paid for the days after the strike. I received half salary. Other members are angry right now, they are blaming the NEC for calling off the strike.”

Lecturers across the country have been protesting against this decision by the Federal Government.

The National Executive Council of the union is expected to hold a crucial meeting in the coming days over the withheld salaries.
