Custom offers 60% rebate to all ‘uncustomed’ vehicles in dealers stock

On the heels of the recent policy of auto duty payment, the Nigeria Custom Service has approved a 60% rebate to all uncustomed vehicles in the car dealers stock.

The 60% rebate, Nigeria Custom Service explained on Wednesday in Abuja will be for motor dealers who have stock of uncustomed vehicles from 2015 downward and it applies only within the grace Period of March 13th to Wednesday 12th April.‎

Briefing  newsmen on behalf of the Comptroller General of NCS Hammed Ibrahim Ali, the Acting Spokesperson for the Service  Joseph Attah‎ said “the adjustment of points of payment and the 60% rebate across board from 2015 downward is to ease the process and encourage all motor dealers in with stock of uncustomed vehicle to come forward and pay duty”.

Attah also said that the auto duty payment will now be made to the nearest custom area command. According to him, “ while the grace period remains Monday 13th March to Wednesday 12th April, the points of payments with the exception of Lagos and port Harcourt will now be the nearest Custom Area Command”.

He explained further that motor dealers in Lagos are to pay their duties at Zone ‘A’ headquarters, No 1 Harvey road, yaba and Federal operation Unit, Zone ‘A’, Ikeja. While in port Harcourt , auto duty payment will be at Zone ‘C’ Headquarters, Nigeria ports Authority.

He further directed private vehicle owners whose duty has not been paid to take advantage of the grace period and pay up their duty charge, saying that owners of such vehicles should go to the nearest pay-point for assessment and payment.

In his own submission,Ajibola Adodoyin, the president of the Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON), said that the association will put in their best to ensure that the correct duties are paid on vehicles,while working closely with the Nigeria Customs Service.
