The exact date of Eid al-Fitr celebration is never certain as celebrations vary from locality to locality. Religious authorities in various countries rely on the sighting of the Eid crescent moon to announce when it will officially begin. In Ghana, the observance will take place on Thursday, May 13 this year.

During this period of Eid al-Fitr, feasting, visiting friends and families, giving out gifts, putting on new clothes, and giving alms (zakat al-Fitr) are common Muslim communities.

That being said, savvy businesses will quickly position themselves to take advantage of the season as it presents an opportunity to boost sales particularly for those in the food, beauty, garment, and general retail store industry.

Due to the vast opportunity that Eid al-Fitr presents, some people across the world refer to the season as “the Ramadan rush.”

How to take advantage of Eid al-Fitr celebration to increase sales?

#1 Prepare marketing campaigns in advance

It is well advised to have a well-thought-out marketing campaign weeks before the Eid festival. This will ensure customers familiarize themselves with your brand and what you have to offer. However, if you haven’t begun your campaign, it may never be too late to begin. With barely a day to go before the big festival, coming up with an attractive sale strategy and boost in marketing effort may position your business to take advantage of the festive occasion.

#2 Set your store hours

Whether your store is located in the mall or is ‘independent,’ you might consider opening your store for longer hours to take advantage of the rush to increase sales. You may refer to last year’s sales to see if it is necessary or not.

#3 Decorate your store

Attract customers by decorating your physical or online store but with customer convenience in mind. Using intriguing posters and/or banners can attract customer attention to your store or website.

#4 Provide customer tips

Most customers, when shopping for gift items are usually puzzled as to what gift to purchase. Being your customer guide during shopping can greatly appeal to your customer and attract more customers to your store. You may for example offer suggestions through Instagram photos and captions or Tweets.
