The Bus Conductor Association of Nigeria (BCAN) has appealed to the Lagos State governor-elect, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to involve it in the implementation of the new state transport reform.
The national chairman of the association, Mr Israel Adeshola, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday.
“We want the governor-elect to involve our association while implementing the new policy on the transport sector in the state.
“The association believes in the continuity process of infrastructure development in the state.
“That is why we are making this appeal to the incoming governor to include our members in the system,” he said.
He added that no fewer than 4,000 registered members of BCAN had been trained at the Lagos State Driver’s Institute (LASDRI) to enhance uniform and quality service delivery.
“We have also organised various training for our members on global standard of service delivery,” he said.
Adeshola said that when the government involved his association in the implementation of the transport policy, their representatives would be able to explain the roles their members were expected to play when the policy becomes functional.
The BCAN chairman also said that his members were fully ready to operate according to the proposed transportation reform when introduced by the LASG.
Adeshola said BCAN members had attended LASDRI for accreditation as well as the Directorate of Transport Commuters Service (DOTCS) to get various identification badges and uniforms.
“We want to assure the public and the government that our members are fully ready for the state transformation on transport system.
“BCAN wants to ensure that its members stop jumping and hanging on commercial buses anyhow,” he said.
Adeshola also appealed to the state government to carry the members of the association along in its ongoing reform.
