The Lagos State Police Command says it foiled a robbery operation at the premises of Distance Ventures located in Badagry area of the state.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Mr Imohimi Edgal, told newsmen on Monday that the suspects were robbing owners and customers of the ventures when the police received the information.
“Based on the information, SARS operatives stationed at Mowo-Badagry, swiftly raced to the scene where they engaged the robbers who were shooting sporadically as they retreated.
“However, they were subdued by the superior fire power of the SARS operatives, who arrested three of the robbers on Gbagi Bridge and the rest jumped into the river.
“Exhibits recovered from them include; one cut-to-size double barrel gun, one cut-to-size single barrel gun, five live cartridges and one unregistered Bajaj motorcycle,” he said.
Edgal added that the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
In a similar development, Edgal said that police operatives have arrested three members of an armed robbery gang that invaded and robbed residents of Equitable Estate, Egbalere-Ikorodu on Jan. 5.
Edgal said that based on information, operatives of SARS, Ikorodu, swiftly mobilised to the scene and found the robbers driving-off in a Nissan Xtera SUV with Reg. No. AJJ 281 DC that was snatched from a resident.
He said that the robbers abandoned the vehicle at Itaelewa junction, Ikorodu and escaped, following a hot chase.
The CP said the abandoned vehicle was recovered and the exhibits left behind in the car by the robbers gave the police the necessary clue that led to the arrest of the gang leader.
He said items recovered from the car included a cut-to-size locally made double barrel gun with five unexpended cartridges.
“During interrogation, the gang leader confessed to have committed the crime and led operatives to their hideout where two other members of the gang were arrested.
“Additional items recovered from the gang were; one inverter, generator, stabilizer, pressing iron, cutlass, three wrist watches and one Samsung S8 phone.
