The clarification has confirmed metrobusinessnews.com (MBN) story on Tuesday that fire outbreak was reported at a branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) located on Marina Street, Lagos Island.

MBN had reported that the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, sent panic across the busy commercial district as thick smoke was seen billowing from the building.

Videos shared on social media sighted by IntelRegion showed workers and others attempting to escape through a ladder from the balcony of the building housing the bank.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and no casualties have been reported as of the time of filing this report.

The Marina axis is home to several major banks and financial institutions, making it one of the busiest parts of Lagos Island

However, UBA, in the statement confirmed that the fire occurred at a building on Broad Street, which happens to house one of its numerous branches on Lagos Island.

“As against reports on online and social media, the affected building is not UBA House, Marina, the Bank’s head office,” UBA said.

The bank assured that precautionary measures had been taken to safeguard lives within the premises.

“We have ensured the safety and well-being of our branch staff, customers and other visitors in the building,” the statement added.

UBA further provided contact details for enquiries, urging the public to reach out via cfc@ubagroup.com or call 07002255822.
