The federal government has ordered immediate reopening of the Independence Bridge in Lagos which was closed to traffic on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
The action has brought a great relief to Lagosians, whose businesses and social lives were virtually paralysed following the closure of the bridge for maintenance and rehabilitation works.
David Umahi, minister of works gave the directive, promising that repair work would continue on a later date.
The ministry of works, in a statement on Wednesday night signed by Olukorede Kesha, federal controller of works in Lagos, said efforts were currently ongoing to ensure palliative works were carried out on the bridge to make it motorable.
