Brig.-Gen. Nafiu said the Scheme and Federal Government are responsive to corps members’ welfare and would continue to ensure that their well-being was accorded maximum priority at all times.

The NYSC D-G disclosed this on Thursday while interacting with corps members in Wuse and Garki NYSC Zonal Offices of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.
General Nafiu, who thanked the corps members for their selfless service to the nation, advised them to remain calm, dedicated, focused and disciplined.

He lauded the founding father of the Scheme for conceiving the vision, while advocating that all should rally round the NYSC to fulfill its mandate.

General Nafiu described the NYSC as a beautiful scheme that is committed to building bridges and exposing graduate youths to learning and understanding the cultural values of places outside their places of birth.

He stated further that management would continue to instill the virtues of patriotism, discipline, self-restraint, good morals, leadership qualities and teamwork in the successive batches of corps members.

“With effect from March, you are going to receive the sum of Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira as your monthly allowance. NYSC is good at record-keeping and l can assure you that your money will be paid. The Nation and the Scheme appreciate you”, he said.

Speaking on behalf of her colleagues at Garki Zone, a serving corps member, Zaka Deborah Alheri FC/24A/5831, lauded the Director General for his conscientious efforts towards the payment of their increased monthly allowance.

Meanwhile, the NYSC is projected to spend approximately N307.6 billion on the mobilization and payment of allowances to corps members in 2025.

In the 2025 budget proposal presented to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu in December 2024, the NYSC was allocated N430.7 billion, the highest in the past five years.

Of this amount, N372.9 billion—86.5% of the total allocation—was specifically designated for corps members’ allowances.

On average, the NYSC mobilises between 1,200 and 1,500 corps members for the orientation exercise across camps in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The mobilisation occurs in three batches annually—A, B, and C.

This results in an average of 55,500 corps members per batch, bringing the total number of corps members mobilised in a year to 333,000.

With each corps member now receiving N77,000, the total payment for one batch amounts to N25.64bn.

Over the course of the year, this brings the total amount allocated for corps members’ allowances to N307.6bn.
