FG Names Anyaoku,Emefiele, Oluremi Tinubu,  Awele Elumelu, Owen Omogiafo, Attah Igala, Others As 2023 National Awards Recipients

Outgoing President Mohammadu Buhari has approved the award of national honours to some prominent Nigerians and friends of Nigeria.

The list which includes prominent names such as Emeka Anyaoku, (GCON), former secretary of Common Wealth, incoming 1st lady Oluremi Tinubu, (CON), Co-Founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation, Dr Awele Elumelu, (OFR)  and President of Transcorp Group, Dr Owen Omogiafo (OON).

They also include, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, (CFR), Chairman, Access Holdings, Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, (CFR),  His Royal Majesty, Attah Igala, Mathew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa, (CFR), Sunday Ibrahim Ameh, SAN ((OFR) and Managing Director of Nation Newspapers, Victor Ifijeh, (OON), among others

The list which has Anyaoku as the only recipient of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, (GCON), 23 for Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), 75 for Commander of the Order of the Niger, (CON),78 for Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic, (OFR) and 85 for the Officer of the Order of the Niger, (OON.

They also include 53 for Member of the Order of the Federal Republic, (MFR), 22 for Member of the Order of the Niger, (MON) and three for Federal Republic Medal 1, (MFR1)

The list which was signed by Ibiene P. Roberts, Permanent Secretary, FMSDIGA, advised all recipients to send hard and soft copies of their citations/resumes to the Secretary, National Honours Awards Committee, Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, after which they get to FMSDIGA  office for collection of their certificates and Medals on June 1, 2023

Dr Awele Elumelu, co-founder of TEF is the Chairperson of Avon Medical Practice Limited. She is also the Chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited and oversees the healthcare investments of Heirs Holdings.

 

She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Benin.

Her experience as a medical doctor includes medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and emergency medicine.

 

In Nigeria, Dr Elumelu has worked with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and, in the UK, with Grantham and District Hospital, Grantham.
