As the outgoing president Muhammadu Buhari government prepares to handover to the succeeding one, Nigerians have continued to lament losses occassioned by action or inaction of the administration that have sent many people into hardship.

Besides the controversial subsidy which is still shrouded in secrecy for which the supposedly target has been abandoned with trillions of naira down the drain, the turnaround maintenance of the moribund refineries are seen as another conduit pipes on the economy, among many others.
“How did we get to this level of wastages and leakages in the system that have continued to impoverish Nigerians. 2hen and how will 5he situation be remedied and 2jo will come to the rescue of this country,” laments a stakeholder, who pleaded for anonymity.
The chairman of the National Population Commission, Nasir Isa-Kwarra, on Thursday, hinted at how N224 billion released by the Federal Government for the 2023 housing and population census was spent.
The initial money budgeted for the exercise was N800 billion but was cut short after the postponement.Isa-Kwara mentioned in Abuja during a breakfast meeting with media executives that the N224 billion has been spent on preparations for the exercise which include printing of papers, and training of adhoc staff members, among many other miscellaneous.

According to Friday Ameh, Lagos based analyst, “it is very surprising that most 5imes, this government would have committed funds into a project before before thinking of its viability. Or else, how do you explain a situation 2here a government that was in power for over seven years would think of conducting a capital intensive project like census that requires long planning at the twilight of the administration.”
