Government Discovers 20 Fake Tertiary Institutions In One Kogi LG

Kogi State Government says it has identified 20 fake tertiary institutions in Ankpa Local Government Area alone.
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon Wemi Jones made the revelation during the visieditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to Glory Land Polytechnic, Ankpa.
He said operators of illegal Private Tertiary Institutions operating outside the State Education Laws would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Jones said, followed due process and enjoined others to emulate the institution or risk being closed down and the proprietors prosecuted.

According to the Commissioner, the Education Law in Kogi State is aimed at regulating schools in line with international best practices.
Hon Jones pointed out that Glory Land Polytechnic is the first Private institution in Ankpa to have invited the NBTE for accreditation, a gesture that shows it is prepared to function within the provisions of the law.

In his words: “All our State owned tertiary institutions are fully accredited because the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello is responsible and responsive to the needed standard of education in the State.”
While congratulating the management and staff of the polytechnic for the feat, he enjoined them to sustain the tempo and assist the government in improving the standard of education in Kogi State.
In his address, Rector of Glory Land Polytechnic, Mr Achor Awodi enumerated its vision to include; becoming a world class institution that provides the technological manpower that would improve training and research for the advancement of the society.
According to the Rector, the school is equipped to also provide the desired training and undertake innovative research necessary to meet the technical and technological manpower needs of Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
Other speakers at the event expressed hope that the institution would provide opportunity for quality education for residents of the area and the surrounding communities disadvantaged by distance and other factors.
