Determined to enhance the knowledge of practitioners as well as stakeholders, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) is organizing one day capacility building workshop.
The workshop, scheduled for Monday, May 9, in Lagos, with the theme “An Evaluation of Finance Acts 2019 to 2021 and Practical Steps to Implementation” is aimed at enhancing the knowledge of practitioners and interested stakeholders, in view of the dynamic nature of the the practice and the environment.
Details of the Workshop as made available to the platform show the it is both virtual and physical, with other sub-themes including, Finance Act 2019 (amendments and implementation guides) and Finance Acts (2020 and 2021 amendments and implementation guides).
The institute commended the current efforts of the federal government in repositioning taxation as the main stay of revenue generation and expressed optimism that the knowledge from the workshop will give an added boost to the current application and practice of the Act.
“ The consistency of the Federal Government in this area since 2019 has received commendation from Nigerians as this has strengthened the legislative framework of the tax system in view of global best practices,“ the statement read.
However, the institute deplored the frequency of amendments and update of tax laws, which according to the institute, “will pose a challenge to practitioners and administrators except they update their knowledge and skills with the amendments being introduced by the Finance Acts.“
This, according to them is the fact that “The practice of taxation is a highly structured process requiring up-to-date knowledge and skill development in the light of current developments in the tax space, together with challenges confronting effective tax practice.“
The release further advised that attendance is compulsory for all CITN Licensed Tax Practitioners and their relevant staff.
