Following allegations over drug trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Police on Monday arrested the embattled ‘Super Cop’ Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police.

It was gathered that Kyari was arrested alongside four others on Monday.

But, the unfolding melodrama has again put Nigeria on a suspicious scale as stakeholders are at a loss over what’s really happening.

Questions on the lips of many Nigerians are, whether this melodrama is not orchestrated to divert public attention from the main issue and possibly forget the extradition request; why a suspended police officer could still have access to members of staff of the IRT, his former office, who could still be carrying out his instructions under an organised force that has an Inspector General; what the police authorities know that Nigerians do not know, particularly with recent order of disbandment of the IRT by the IG and recalling the staff to Abuja; why the Federal Government is dethering in the Prosecution process while the suspended officer has been going about as if nothing was happening,?.

Kyari had been suspended in July 2021 following allegations of money laundering and other related cyber crimes by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Nigeria’s Minister of Justice says there is an established prima facie to extradite Abba Kyari to the United States to face trial.
