Anambra State House of Assembly may have resolved to impeach Governor Peter Obi, should the on going investigation into the N250m allegedly intercepted from his aides by the police in Lagos indict him.
A member of the state legislature representing Aguata II constituency, Sir Ebere Ezechukwu who spoke with Vanguard yesterday said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) constituted House of Assembly will not hesitate to impeach the Governor, if the investigation into the money showed contrary to his(Obi’s) claim that it was money paid to a contractor for a job executed in the state.
Besides, the lawmaker said the Governor had committed many impeachable offences which the House of Assembly ignored in the interest of peace and most importantly, to allow Obi the chance to show the people what he can do as a Governor.
According to Ezechukwu, the worst was the present state of insecurity in the state, where on daily basis, there are reported cases of armed robbery in Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka and other parts of the state. He advised the Governor to resign because he had failed the people.
I want to tell you that the visit of our national vice chairman( South East), Olisa Metu to the Anambra state House of Assembly was not connected in any way with the impeachment of Mr Peter Obi. We in the House know what we are doing and we do not need Olisa Metu to teach us our legislative duties. He came to reconcile the members, some of whom were no longer with one voice, period.
But I can assure you that if the Governor, Mr Peter Obi is found wanting in the on going investigation over the N250m said to have been found with his aides, we (House of Assembly) will not hesitate to impeach himâ€, he said. He said the state of insecurity in the state presently had forced many industrialists to neighbouring states like Enugu and Delta. Ezechukwu said that the increasing rate of crimes in the state had also made it difficult for investors to invest in Anambra, adding that some who had attempted to start some businesses had left the state.
