Mohammed held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond the reasonable doubt and sentenced Chukuma, to six months imprisonment.

He, however, gave the convict an option to pay N25, 000 as fine.

Mohammed also  warned the convict against repeating any criminal act, while adding that the sentence should serve as a deterrent to others.

Earlier, the Prosecution , Mrs Idowu Ojo told the court that the complainant, Esther Akpan of Kogo 3, Bwari, reported the defendant , who is a student of Dorben Polytechnic, Garam, Niger state at the Bwari Police Station on March 16.

Ojo said that the convict entered the shop of the complainant on same date, under the pretence to transact business but criminally stole the complainant’s employer’s Compact HP laptop.

The prosecution added that, during police investigation, the laptop was recovered from the defendant who was then charged.

She added that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the penal code.
