The Nasarawa State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has intervened in the ongoing three days’ warning strike by the state chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) with a view to ending it.
The chairman of the NLC chapter in the state, Mr Abdullahi Adeka, , disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia.
Adeka said that since the warning strike started on Monday, April 1, they had been engaged in several meetings with the state government and NMA leadership in order to resolve the issues.
“We have met with the Deputy Governor; the Chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenue, the Head of Service and others.
“By the grace of God, the efforts of these stakeholders will yield positive results that will make everybody to smile at the end of the day,” Adeka said.
The chairman noted that the union was already working toward addressing some of the demands which also affected other civil servants in the state.
“Already, we have reached an advanced stage toward implementing the promotion of all the civil servants in the state, including the medical doctors,” Adeka said.
He, therefore, expressed the optimism that the ongoing negotiations would end the strike and guarantee a sustained industrial harmony in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that doctors in the state on Monday embarked on a warning strike over alleged government’s nonchalance to their welfare.
NAN also reports that the demands of the union include: career stagnation, high tax deductions and 22 months of unpaid arrears of corrected salary structure amounting to over N400 million.
