HousingFederal Civil Servants in Osun have appealed to the Federal Government to make its newly completed housing scheme in the state affordable for them to purchase.

Respondents, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Osogbo, said affordability of the scheme would afford them to be a proud owner of a house before retirement.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Federal Government under its housing scheme had completed four units of one bedroom flat, 44 units of two bedroom flats and 20 units of three bedroom flats on 10.6 hectares of land in Osogbo, the state capital.

Mr Olasunkanmi Dunmoye, South West Zonal Coordinator, during the inspection of the housing said that modalities for selling the flats would be made known after its inauguration.

Mrs Funmilayo Ibirogba, a federal civil servant, said it would be a thing of joy if the Federal Government could make the price of housing scheme to be within the reach of civil servants.

Ibirogba said one of the major problems facing civil servants was their inability to build a house before retirement due to poor salary scale.

She urged government to sell the flats within a reasonable price to enable civil servants to be proud owners of a house before retirement.

Mr Kunle Ayeni, another civil servant, said since government was not after profit making from the housing scheme, it should be placed within the reach of workers.

Ayeni said government should give the housing scheme in form of loan for civil servants and spread it for years to enable them to pay.

Another civil servant, Mrs Caroline Nwachukwu said it was saddening that many civil servants retired from service without owing a decent house.

Nwachukwu said it would be wonderful achievements if government could make the modalities of buying a flat in the housing scheme within the reach of workers.

She said government could also integrate the modalities for buying the house into the contribution being made to the National Housing Fund (NHF) by civil servants.

Mr Sunday Ayanda, also a civil servant, said he was eagerly waiting to see the modalities government would use in selling the flats.

Ayanda appealed to government to put ‘human face’ in selling the flats, adding that civil servants were too poor to build a house for themselves due to poor salary.

He said selling the flats within the affordability of civil servants would be a thing of joy and a great land mark for President Muhammad Buhari.
