The organised labour in Nasarawa State says that workers have been fully mobilised to joined the planned nationwide strike proposed to commence midnight of Wednesday Sept. 26, to press for the new national minimum wage.
The leaders of the organised labour in the state disclosed this in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia on Tuesday.
Abdullahi Adeka, the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Nasarawa State, said that the workers were fully mobilised in line with the directive from the national headquarters.
He said that the workers were just waiting for further directive from the national headquarters on when the strike would commence.
“This is a national issue and we are going to comply fully. So, we are just waiting for further directive,” he said.
Similarly, Sabo Namo, state Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), said that the congress had already received a memo that the strike would commence midnight of Wednesday.
Namo expressed shocked over the nonchalant attitude of the government toward the workers welfare.
He said that the economy reality was that workers could not cater for their families due to unfriendly government actions.
In the same vein, Doggo Shamma, Nasarawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), said that journalists were ready to give publicity to the strike.
He said that though the union was an affiliate of the organised labour, they still have to inform the public.
The NUJ chairman, therefore, appealed to the Federal Government to act fast in the interest of the country.
