Bukola SarakiThe Senate on Wednesday, urged its joint Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, and Basic Education to probe the internally generated revenues of West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO).

The decision followed a point of order 43, of Senate rules by Senator Dino Melaye (APC), representing Kogi West Senatorial district, reminding the Senate of a whooping Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of N7bn by JAMB in 2017.

He explained that the two examination bodies have larger candidates compared to Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, saying, they should be investigated for not remitting revenues above that of JAMB.

“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, WAEC and NECO could generate much more than the N7bn JAMB generated in 2017.”

“The bodies have more candidates sitting for WAEC and NECO compared to candidates sitting for JAMB. If pipes in the examination bodies are blocked, the country will see more money there.”

Senate President, Bukola Saraki ordered the relevant Committee on Education to conduct investigations in the agencies.
