The council’s Head of Nigeria Office, Amos Dangut, disclosed this on Monday, August 4, 2025, in a statement announcing the release of the 2024 WASSCE results.
A total of 1,969,313 candidates sat the examination conducted between April and June 2025, out of the 1,973,365 who registered across 23,554 secondary schools in Nigeria.
The exam was also administered in schools in Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea following the Nigerian curriculum.
Announcing the release, Dangut said that despite some hitches during the conduct of the exams, the process was successful.
“Today, I am happy to announce to you that all the processes leading to the release of the results have been concluded,” Dangut stated.

According to him, out of the 1,969,313 candidates for the exam, only 754,545 students, representing 38.32 per cent, obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics — the benchmark for university admission in Nigeria.
This means that over 1.2 million students failed to meet the minimum requirement, a worrying trend when compared to the 72.12 per cent recorded in 2024.
The result represents a 33.8 per cent drop in performance in these essential subjects.
Dangut said 976,787 of the candidates who sat the exam were male, while 992,526 were female, representing 49.60 per cent and 50.40 per cent respectively.
Out of the total, 12,178 candidates with varying degrees of special needs were registered, including 112 visually impaired, 615 with hearing difficulties, 52 with mental health conditions, and 37 physically challenged candidates. WAEC said provisions were made to support these candidates, and their results have also been released.
So far, the results of 1,517,517 candidates (77.06 per cent) have been fully processed and released, while 451,796 candidates (22.94 per cent) still have one or more subjects pending due to issues being resolved.
WAEC said it is working to release the outstanding results in the coming days.
