Buhari Could Have Been Long Dead If He Had Used Nigerian Hospitals-Adesina

*Some Nigerians Disagree, Say, Outburst Needless

Former presidential spokesman Femi Adesina has said that his former principal, Muhammadu Buhari, could have been long dead if he had used Nigerian hospitals.

Adesina, who was a guest during Channels Television‘s special coverage for Buhari’s funeral on Tuesday, said those who criticised the death of Buhari in a London hospital should understand that the former president had always used London hospitals before he was elected president in May 2015.

The former editor said the UK doctors were already familiar with Buhari’s medical history and there was no need to change them.

Adesina said some Nigerian hospitals lacked the facilities and expertise needed for the ex-president’s treatment.

But most Nigerians have criticised Adesina, saying the outburst lacks empathy, but rather allowed poor Nigerians to die for lack of resources or privilege to go abroad for medical treatment.

“The fact that his principal knew the deteriorating position of Nigerian hospitals, in the area of facilities, should have been an all encouragement for him to ensure that necessary facilities were brought into the country,” says a Nigerian who pleaded for anonymity.

A medical analyst said, “It was a needless comment from Adesina more so as majority of Nigerians were not happy with the performance of the ex and late President Muhammadu Buhari. Is there any ailment that can only be cured in a certain environment? The lack of facilities and expertise should never be reasons for wasting public funds on individuals. We were told the major reason for the man aspiring for leadership was to alleviate the sufferings of the poor. But going abroad for treatment and leaving the poor to contend with hospitals without facilities and expertise, to me, was not the best option.”
