Anxiety As Falana Says ASUU Strike Will Be Called Off In Days

Anxious students and guardians are waiting to see the gates of public universities opened and lectures resume as revealed by Femi Falana, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and counsel to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)

Falana has expressed optimism that the lingering strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will be called off in days and not weeks.

He stated this at the book launch entitled Breaking Coconut With Your Head, by Lanre Arogundade on Monday in Lagos

He stated that it is likely that the strike will be concluded outside the courtroom.

This is coming on the heels of various suggestions and permutations over the likely reactions of ASUU to the court directive.

Some stakeholders say forcing the lecturers back to classrooms might not work with the lingering issues yet to be tackled.
While condemning the federal government’s dither in solving the issues, some of them see a situation where ASUU will call of the strike in compliance with the court’s verdict and declare fresh strike almost immediately.

“Although we are desirous of ASUU calling off strike, we are not sure, the lecturers will just go back without the basic issues like payments of outstanding salaries.

Am not sure they are being truthful and considering the ever doggedness of Falana, I think, they are still keeping something closer to their chest“, a stakeholder said.
