ASUU Strike: NANS Demonstrates, Demands Education Minister’s Resignation

Amid protests that resulted in heavy traffic on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the National Association of Nigerian Students on Tuesday called for the resignation of the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, over the lingering strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, since February 14, 2022.

The leadership of NANS said this during the protest that took place on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway alleging that the minister had shown no interest in dialoguing with ASUU to call off the strike.

Travellers and motorists on Tuesday had a nasty experience along the ever busy Expressway as students of public universities in the country obstructed the free flow of traffic along the corridor for many hours.

The students in their scores with various placards and in the middle of the ever-busy highway at Olufu Ape Junction\AP2 near the Shagamu interchange section of the expressway chanting solidarity songs to protest their continuous staying at home due to the unresolved crisis between the Federal Government and their lecturers, who have been on industrial action for almost seven months and still counting.

Metrobusinessnews.com (MBN) gathered that NANS Vice President (External Affairs), Akinteye Babatunde, said the blockade would continue in different locations until the Federal Government resolved the impasse with the lecturers.

“This protracted strike is becoming a madness and the student populace will not take it,” he added.
