Bandits Ambush, kill Three Policemen, Five Vigilantes In Kogi

Bandits on Saturday killed eight security men in Kogi State; three policemen and five members of the State Vigilante Service in Jidda Bassa community in Ajaokuta Local Government area.

The Special Adviser to the state governor,  Jerry Omodara confirmed the incident to newsmen in Lokoja.

Omdara said the security men were ambushed and killed on Saturday afternoon by the bandits while on their way to attend to distress calls by residents.

The residents had noticed some strange movements in the community which they promptly reported to the Divisional Police Officer who in turn dispatched the security personnel to the area.

However, the bandits, got wind of the security men movement, laid ambush and killed eight of them instantly in the process.

The corpses of the slain policemen and vigilante service personnel have been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.

Omodara, however, vowed that the state government will do all within its power to get the gunmen arrested and make them to face justice.

He said government will take proactive steps to immediately bring the security situation in Jidda Bassa under control.

Omodara explained that government was doing its best to curb criminal activities in all parts of the state, saying that any attempt by hoodlums to make the state unsafe will be summarily dealt with .

The Special Adviser sympathised with the families, relations and friends of the eight dead security personnel and urged the people of the community to remain calm and be extra vigilant.
