Despite Governor’s Appeal, Police, Army Battle Thugs At Ikoyi Over Attempted Jail Break

Despite appeals for calm and restraints by Governor Babajide  Sanwo-Olu Policemen and soldiers had a herculean task of foiling attempted jailbreak by thugs on Thursday. The security agencies were seen shooting into the air and accosting anybody found on the street as revealed by Arise Television.

The television house showed heavy smoke billowing from parts of the centre while inmates were seen running. Gun shots also sporadically rent the air.
It was learnt that the prison authorities immediately notified and called the police and the military authorities for backup.
According to TheNewsguru, an online platform, An eyewitness said, “I can see them from my house at the moment. Soldiers and policemen have arrived. I saw prisoners throwing stones and I saw fire.”
There was also report of fire outbreak at the prison facility.
Police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi who spoke on the incident said; “Yes, there is fire outbreak there but we are investigating and our men are on the ground with fire fighters.
“Area Commander, Area A and Commnader MOPOL 2 Keffi road VI and men are there. No cause for alarm.”
Already, there are insinuations that the looting and wantom destruction of lives and property may have gone beyond the legitimate demands of the protesters. Consequently, on the powers beyond Sanwo-Olu as attested in his earlier comment yesterday, the govermor said on the television:

“I will be very careful on what I’ll say on here. There are reports I have that shows that there is more to this #EndSars protests. There are visuals, audios that we have seen that we need to investigate deeper to get dimension and ascertain what to make out of it; I can’t do a guess work here. Regarding my speech, I was trying to explain that the hierarchy of the military are not in my command;  Iam not pretending to act as if I have the power to activate or control the military…”
