The unidentified men who moved with air of audacity into the Senate Chamber at exactly 11:15 am took the Mace and left with it at exactly 11:16 am.
Drama began when the Senate reconvened and commenced plenary session at exactly 10:53 am on Wednesday after the Presiding officer and deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu had examined and approved the votes and proceedings of the previous day.
However, just a few minutes into the session, the fierce looking men with some dressed in a brown Niger Delta attire, walked into the chamber and removed the Mace.
Taken unaware by the intruders, men of the Sergeant-At-Arms, the security arm of the legislature could not do much to stop them despite resistance from some of them who tried to stop them.
Strangely, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (APC, Delta Central), who was last week suspended for 90 legislative days was seen entering the Senate Chamber at about the same time the thugs entered.
It is however, not yet clear if Omo-Agege actually led the men into the chamber for the purpose of removing the Mace.
But having been suspended, the embattled Senator according to the rules of the Senate was not supposed to be seen within the parameters of the National Assembly until his suspension is lifted or elapses.
Bewildered senators are currently locked in the chamber in an executive session trying to figure out the next line of action.
