EDO PDP rejects tribunal jugement, vows to appeal

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership in Edo state said it has rejected the verdict of the election petition tribunal that upheld the victory of the state governor, Godwin Obaseki as the winner of the last September 28, 2017 governorship election in the state.

The Ahmed Badamasi-led three man panel had     Thursday dismissed the petition of the PDP’s candidate, Osagie Ize- Iyamu and upheld the declaration of governor, Godwin Obaseki of All Progressives Congress the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Dan Orbih state chairman of the party,  who made the disclosure while reacting to the judgment in Benin-City also disclosed that the party will appeal the judgment.

According to Orbih, the party has completely rejectedx the verdict and we are going to appeal against the judgment.

“We have told our lawyers to appeal the judgement. The issues we raised in the petition were not addressed by the tribunal”, he said.

He however commended all Edo people for their support even as he described the governorship candidate of the party, Osagie Ize-Iyamu as a very good candidate who will definitely become the governor of Edo state in the long run.

Also reacting the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu described the judgment as porous by dismissing the petition by the tribunal.

“From the snippets I heard of the tribunal judgement it cannot stand in the higher courts. This case must be pursued up to the Supreme Court”.
